Screwed by a counterfeit

I came upon the most unpleasant discovery the other day. I was shopping at my favorite store, Forever 21. While paying for my items, I handed the girl at the counter a few twenties. One of them she looked over, waved in front of some fancy machine, gave me an awkward look and said "I'm sorry, I can't take this. It's not real"

What the....!!! Turns out she was completely right. Some jack-a$$ tipped me at work with a bogus bill! And now I am out twenty bucks.

Take a look at this photo. The bill on top is real, the one beneath it is the counterfeit. Comparing the two, you can easily see the color difference. But on its own, the fake is pretty convincing.

this is my deepest fear! whenever i have just enough money to pay for something this little voice pops in my head saying "what if i somehow ended up with fake money and i cant afford it". mostly this happens on the rare occasions i have large bills like 50's and 100's. so sorry this happened to you.
