I was a busy girl this week ;)
Dear John:
Take this quite literally: I cried for nearly 2 hours straight. No joke. Basically boy meets girl. Boy is on leave from the Army and has to say goodbye to girl after two weeks together. Boy has fallen for girl and girl promises to wait for boy. Lying bitch. I'll leave the rest for the movie to reveal. I found the airport goodbye scenes especially painful. It was like picking at the scabs that have covered the memories of having to say goodbye to my Australian (ex)bf in airports knowing we wouldn't be together for 6+ months. It's so painful. Thanks Dear John for making me relive that pain I buried. The relationship between John and his father was also especially touching and probably half the reason why I was a sobbing mess. Overall, not sure if I can say it's up to par with The Notebook, but honestly, is any sappy love story?
(P.S. Awesome soundtrack)
Shutter Island:
WARNING: Not a date movie! AMAZING movie. Definitely a total downer. I really don't know how to explain any of the plot without totally giving the movie away. Pretty much Leo plays a Marshall in the 1950's sent to Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of one of the criminal insane patients kept there. Once he gets there, it's nothing but twists and turns. It's absolutely nuts! But when it all makes sense in the end...it leaves you wanting to watch it again. Remember in Fight Club when the huge twist leaves you wanting to watch it all over again so you can now really understand what was going on? Yeah, it's kinda like that.
Valentine's Day:
Cute movie. Very predictable. Definitely no Love Actually. But cute none the less. It's a renter.
