Yesterday Rob and I decided to head down to Santa Cruz for their annual Clam Chowder Cook-Off and Festival. Neither of us had been before and weren't exactly sure what to expect. The event turned out to be a blast! There were probably around 50 different groups/companies/individuals who had entered the competition and had their booths set up. For $8 you could purchase a 'Tasting Kit' which included 5 tickets for chowder samples, cup/spoon, and your 'People's Choice' voting ticket.
Some of the booths had came up with some pretty entertaining themes: an Army theme, 'Silence of the Clams,' Angels v. Devil, etc.
Some of the chowders were absolutely delicious. Our favorites was from 'Jerry's of Hollister.' Unfortunately,
they did not win but damn their chowder was GOOD!
Can't wait to see what other festivals are coming up! :)
